We Love This Gritty City
Our Creative Director Marc Oxborrow launched a new type of project this month: the inaugural Gritty City Stringfest. The C/A crew hit the bluegrass-fueled festival at Valley Bar in Downtown Phoenix April 29.
The show’s lineup featured a mix of familiar and emerging Arizona bluegrassy bands, like Run Boy Run (of A Prairie Home Companion fame), Laura and The Killed Men, and Marc’s own band, The Haymarket Squares.
Wondering where the Gritty City name came from? Well, a Haymarket Squares song, of course. “It’s about our complicated love for Phoenix,” Marc says. “It’s a place where, as the song explains ‘there’s a million little places with local bands and beer, to have a drink and wonder what the hell you’re doing here.’”
Missed out? No worries. The Squares have countless shows coming up — find one here.
